House Rules

Our Community Expectations:
Structure for Long-Term Success

At Virginia Independent Living, LLC, we believe that accountability is the highest form of care. Our house rules are not designed to be restrictive; rather, they provide the safe, predictable structure necessary to rebuild life skills, foster peer support, and protect everyone’s hard-earned progress.
Every resident signs and agrees to adhere strictly to these guidelines upon move-in.
Zero-Tolerance Substance Policy

Absolute Sobriety:

The use, possession, or distribution of alcohol, illicit drugs, or unprescribed mood-altering substances is strictly prohibited both on and off the property.

Random Testing:

Residents must submit to random, observed drug and alcohol screenings upon request by house management.

Refusal to Test:

Refusal or failure to provide screening sample within the designated timeframe is treated as a positive test result and grounds for immediate administrative discharge to protect the community.

Standard Curfew

Residents must be on the property by 10:00 pm Sunday through Thursday and by 11:00 pm Friday and Saturday.

Curfew Extensions :

Extensions for employment shifts or verifiable recovery commitments must be submitted to the House Manager 24 hours in advance.

Sign Out Logs :

Residents must use the house logbook when leaving for extended periods during the day, specifying their destination and estimated return time.

Meaningful Daytime Activity :

All temporary financial challenges are required to maintain at least 32 hours per week of productive activity. This includes: full-time or part-time employment, enrollment in school or vocational training, active documented community volunteer work, or participation in an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP).

Recovery Engagement :

Temporary financial challenges must actively participate in their personal recovery plan, including attending local peer support meetings (12-Step, SMART Recovery, Celebrate Recovery, etc.) and obtaining a sponsor or recovery mentor.

Chore Assignments :

A clean home fosters a healthy mind. Residents are assigned weekly household chores to maintain common areas, kitchens, and bathrooms.

Room Maintenance :

Personal bedrooms must be kept neat, beds made daily, and personal belongings stored properly.

Quiet Hours :

To ensure everyone rests well for work and meetings, formal quiet hours are observed from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM daily.

Visitor Policy :

To ensure a safe space, unapproved outside guests are not permitted inside the residence. Family visitations are coordinated during designated weekend hours in common spaces only.

Timely Program Fees :

Weekly or monthly program fees are due on the 1st of each billing cycle.

Financial accountability :

Residents experiencing temporary financial challenges must proactively communicate with management
